ANDALUCIAN ASTRONOMY
Astrophotography in the Southern Spanish Skies with Pete Lawrence.
Sub Rosa offers an unforgettable astronomy adventure under the skies of southern Spain. Hosted by renowned world-class astrophotographer Pete Lawrence from the BBC's The Sky At Night, the Andalucian Astronomy retreat is suitable beginners levels onwards and will develop skills necessary to take stunning astro-photographs.
Anyone who has ever gazed up into the night sky far away from the light pollution of the big cities would have looked into a dark, clear realm full of thousands of stars - a realm that becomes even more fascinating and beautiful the more you understand it. The Andalucian Astronomy programme caters for all levels of experience and is designed to be just as much a relaxing break for any non-participating partner. Located in the mountainous Las Alpujarras region between the majestic peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, our accommodation is in a beautiful rural hotel with our observing taking place at over 4,000ft (1,250 metres) in clear, clean mountain air.
There will also be time to explore the stunning countryside and surrounding villages and towns or simply to unwind by the pool!
Pete Lawrence is one of a handful of astrophotographers who have mastered both Solar System and Deep-Sky photography and regularly appears on BBC TV's "The Sky At Night". During the day the dedicated solar scope allows detailed daytime photography of sun-spots and solar flares and in the evenings, the observing sessions at a private observatory use state-of-the-art professional telescopes that bring the night sky alive like never before. Under Pete's guidance you will learn to take amazing space photographs - the perfect souvenir from an amazing week!
