THE DIRECTOR’S CHAIR
The Art & Craft of TV Drama Directing with Robin Sheppard
All of us have at one stage or another watched some of the fantastic television dramas that have graced our screens over the years. For those of us who have ever wanted to find out how these marvels of the small screen were made Sub Rosa offers The Director’s Chair – a week long retreat hosted by award winning director Robin Sheppard.
Robin is one of the UK’s top TV comedy / drama directors having worked on a series of high profile dramas for both the BBC and ITV. She was the original lead director of the hugely popular ‘At Home With The Braithwaites’ and has worked with some of the UK’s top writers including the late Jack Rosenthal on the TV movie ‘Lucky Jim’. Amongst Robin’s other credits are the romantic dark comedy ‘Sparkhouse’, the highly acclaimed ‘Between The Sheets’ starring Brenda Blethyn and Alun Armstrong and the CBS production ‘Perfect Strangers’ starring Rob Lowe and Anna Friel. Robin has worked in other genres directing the hard-hitting ‘Cherished’ – a drama based on the true story of Angela Cannings for which Robin won the highly respected Grierson Award in 2005 prior to returning to her comedy / drama roots with ‘The Bad Mother’s Handbook’ starring Catherine Tate and ‘Kingdom’ starring Stephen Fry.
Taking place at our luxurious mountain-side Haciena Retreat with its beautiful infinity swimming pool, solar heated outdoor jacuzzi, wood-burning sauna lodge and breathtaking views across the Granada Vega, The Director’s Chair retreat will see Robin guide you through the three key stages of directing a successful TV show; pre-production, production and post-production. Illuminating and in depth day time sessions covering the script, casting, a typical day on the shoot, editing, music and final dubbing are bought to life with evening viewings highlighting what has been discussed during the day.
